About the Tallow

Why is Tallow great as skincare

Tallow is essentially rendered beef fat.
It is something our ancestors used for ages and for many things: preserving, curing, cooking fat and even soap for washing up and getting tough stains out of clothing.

Tallow has surely picked up as a trend lately in skincare routines but it certainly has been around for ages. We have just forgotten and we are heavily distracted by the all the fancy overly advertised and unnecessary products being pushed on us by companies who neither care about the environment not our skin health.

Tallow is known for its high moisturising and skin nourishing benefits.

Nutritional properties

Tallow is a good source of essential fatty acids, vitamins A, D, E, and K, choline, and other nutrients. It also contains antioxidants and unsaturated fats.

Skincare properties

Tallow can moisturize and nourish skin, and is compatible with the skin's natural oils. It has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, and can help soothe skin injuries and repair damage. The vitamins in tallow can also help produce collagen and support healthy cell turnover

Does Tallow products have a strong smell?
Depending on the batch of Tallow and the rendering it should not have a strong meaty smell. It should smell neutral and pleasant with a very subtle hint of tallow. We are convinced that it is in our human nature to receive the smell of tallow as pleasant and normal. As many of our products are low in essential oils or even essential oil-free - there might be more of a tallow smell but the products that do have essential oils would not be able to reveal any noticeable smell of tallow as it will have a very obvious fragrant smell such as our Walker’s Relief muscle balm and our Bugger Off as the purpose of these balms are embedded within the essential oils used.

Our Honey skin balm / whipped tallow however has no essential oil in yet it smells very fragrant of pine resin as it has resin-infused oil in and it has no scent of tallow.
